Appointments
Knowledge Test
Make an appointment for your knowledge test at DMV offices in Carson City, Henderson, Las Vegas and Reno.
Skills Test
You must pass the knowledge test for a license or endorsement before you schedule the skills test.
Make an appointment through our Online Drive Test Scheduling System if you have an instruction permit and have met all of the requirements. Online scheduling is available for non-commercial Class C (autos) and Class M (motorcycles) licenses. Most offices also offer stand-by skills test.
All Commercial Drivers License tests and transactions must be completed at a CDL office.

The DMV charges a Testing Fee of $25 for a first-time knowledge and skills test and $10 for all retests. The initial fee covers both written and drive tests for any combination of license classes or endorsements that are paid for at the same time. This fee is in addition to other licensing fees.
Certain medically-required tests are exempt. See Driver License Fees. There is no charge for vision tests.
Vision TestTop ↑
The minimum level of acceptable vision for full driving privileges is 20/40. If a driver must wear glasses or contact lenses to meet this standard, Restriction B will be placed on the license.
Persons who cannot meet this standard may be licensed to drive in daylight hours only, denied a license or required to submit a yearly examination depending on the nature of the vision problem.
Knowledge (Written) TestTop ↑
The Nevada knowledge test for a Class C, non-commercial license consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. 80 percent or better is a passing score.
Knowledge tests are available on touch-screen computers in English and Spanish. The system also offers audio.

Skills (Driving) TestTop ↑
You must pass the knowledge test and obtain an instruction permit for a given class of license or endorsement before you schedule your skills test.
Skills tests are administered by appointment. Larger offices also offer tests on a stand-by basis. Rural offices do not offer stand-by tests. Not all DMV locations offer all tests.
Please have your instruction permit number or social security number ready when you call or schedule online. You must call to cancel a test.

The examiner will perform a safety inspection on your vehicle and check your registration and insurance. Vehicles must be properly registered and insured.
You do not have to use your own vehicle, but you must have a vehicle in the same license class as you are applying for. You may not use a rental car.
Most beginning drivers under 18 must present a driver's education Certificate of Completion and a Beginning Driver Experience Log.

Please do not leave your children unattended while you take a skills test. Skills tests will be canceled if there is no responsible party available to supervise small children.

Knowledge (Written) Test
An applicant who has a lack of English or Spanish language skills may use an interpreter during a written examination for a non-commercial driver’s license, driver authorization card or instruction permit.
Interpreters must attest that they are approved by a governmental agency, court, educational institution, or non-profit advocacy group by presenting a letter from the approving agency. This is submitted with an application (DMV 502). See DMV Approved Translators/Interpreters.
At each test, the interpreter must submit an Affidavit of Oath for Interpreters/Translators (DLD 11).
The applicant must bear any cost of the interpreter’s services. Interpreters may not provide services for family members.
